Silver Bay YMCA of the Adirondacks sits on the shores of Lake George about 90 minutes north of the Rensselaer campus. Located in the Adirondack Mountains, the 700-acre campus is breathtakingly beautiful. For more information on Silver Bay, check out their Web site at www.silverbay.org.

The Camping & Hiking Quest overnight experience is a camping-based experience. This 3-day/2-night trip is designed for participants in good physical condition that are comfortable hiking approximately 8-10 miles a day on mountainous terrain. You may be caught in the rain – sorry, the weather is out of our control! During this adventure each person becomes an integral part of a team that must work cooperatively to overcome challenges such as lighting a fire and cooking a meal, transporting gear, and navigating the trails. You are encouraged to come prepared for a profound camping experience. In addition, you are requested to bring hiking boots or sturdy shoes, a water bottle, bathing suit and towel, rain gear, sleeping bag, backpack, bug repellent, sunscreen, shorts and long pants, along with a sweater or jacket for those cool Adirondack nights. A limited amount of gear is available for loan – please contact the Office of the First-Year Experience at (518) 276-8632 for more information.

“The best part of the trip was the view from the top of the mountain and watching the meteor shower.”

“It was an excellent bonding experience… I made friends that I’m really close to now.”
