Rensselaer’s Darrin Fresh Water Institute, an all-season academic and research facility located at the gateway of the Adirondack Park on the western shore of Lake George, provides you with the opportunity to learn about its distinctive environmental surroundings. You will be presented with environmentally based team-building activities, all at the foot of the Tongue Mountain Range and the historic Narrows of Lake George.

Relationships begin immediately as you plan your meals and negotiate your many choices of activities. These activities include hikes through the Tongue Mountain Range, an Adirondack nature scavenger hunt, and a live rattlesnake demonstration – all of this among the spectacular views of Lake George. You will get to experience all of this while learning environmental and scientific skills such as the basic practices of limnology (fresh water science) and aquatic species identification, as well as training in the use of lab instruments.

Lodging accommodations have been arranged in the newly renovated Education Center, which was originally an Adirondack lodge built in 1896. The newly renovated center offers the warmth of a beautiful Adirondack décor, a large modern kitchen, and recreation room with full computer media capabilities. The communal nature of your stay at the Darrin Fresh Water Institute will foster long-lasting skills, friendships, and experiences.
