Parent & Family Orientation

The Family Orientation program occurs concurrently with your first-year student’s Student Orientation program. Your assigned session and date is indicated in the student confirmation letter. Check-in for both programs takes place at the Rensselaer Union from 8:30 to 9 a.m. on the first day.

Family program registration

If the names of parents or family members are not listed on the enclosed Student Orientation confirmation letter, we do not have your registration information. Please call (518) 276-8632 to register. Although all family members are welcome, we ask that you please consider carefully your choice to bring very young siblings as a separate sibling program is not offered.

Your student

The Family Orientation program is separate from the student program. All students will be housed in designated residence halls and are expected to complete the full day-and-a-half program. Because the student experience consists of highly structured programs and workshops, including evening activities, there will be little opportunity for you to get together until the program has ended. Please identify a location (usually the Closing Session works well) to meet your student on the second day after the program has ended – this will be around noon in the Darrin Communications Center (DCC) Great Hall.
