Below is an example schedule for SO 2009. Your schedule may be slightly different, but this will give you an idea of what to expect. We look forward to meeting you this summer!

Day 1

SO Check-In/Coffee Hour
You will receive your orientation packet and room keys (if staying in the residence halls). Meal passes will be available for purchase.

Departmental Advising
An opportunity to meet with an academic adviser from your student’s curriculum and learn about academics at Rensselaer.

Computing at Rensselaer
Join us for an introduction to Computing at Rensselaer, in and outside of the classroom. The presentation will include an overview of how computing will be used across the curriculum; computing privileges and responsibilities; as well as mobile computing information related to laptop pickup and support.

Lemonade Break/Tours
Stop by for some lemonade and cookies…walking tours will be available.

Dinner in Russell Sage Dining Hall
Meet members of the Rensselaer family and fellow parents while enjoying dinner.

Parent Discussion Groups
Discuss life on campus with the experts — our upper-class students. Bring your questions and compare notes with other families.

Family Social
Meet other parents and family members for coffee and refreshments. You have more in common than you can possibly imagine!

Day 2

Breakfast in Russell Sage Dinning Hall

Experience It: What to Expect in the First Year
This session is for family members interested in exploring the emotions they are likely to encounter during their student’s first year. We will offer practical suggestions for coping with changing family dynamics and establishing revised expectations and boundaries with your student.

Resource Center
Faculty and staff will be available the five schools as well as many student service departments to provide information and answer your questions.

Meet the Greeks
This is an opportunity to meet current members of the Greek system at Rensselaer as well as staff from the office, and even some Greek alumni.

Closing Remarks
Re-connect with your student and learn what makes the Class of 2013 exceptional and unique.
